The aim of Doornkop Needy Children’s Centre is to provide 160 underprivileged children, between the age of 0 and 5 years, with safety, shelter, clothing, education, love and medical aid from Monday to Friday. Some of the children have been abandoned and live in foster care, some have been orphaned and some are HIV positive – they all come from extremely poor families.
Providing a safe environment for the children, they would otherwise be left alone and at risk.
Providing a safe haven and respite for parents, ensuring access to food and water to support their health.
Engaging the children in educational activities such as learning the alphabet, numbers and the concept of colour and providing access to educational toys.
The DNCC also aims to create jobs for its community, assisting Government to empower people with skills. We believe in “Bana Pele” meaning “the children first”. The children of today are the Government of tomorrow. Today the crèche has a total of 9 staff, one Principal, one cook, six care givers and one gardener.
The DNCC was registered as a Non Profit Organisation on the 17th March 2003 (Registration Number: 025093 N.P.O.).
